MAY NEWS
Violins need to go home often. This page will help each student to review our class work. Please note that there is also a Parents' Page.

Several of the KII students are new this year. That is why it seems less than ideal to offer separate KI and KII assignments. As the children progress, however, I may change this policy.

GETTING READY

We need a safe way to handle our precious instruments. The following photos show our class routine. Review weekly!

GETTING READY, continued

D., violin ready. Balancing a small ball on the D and G strings will help us find the right placing for the violin

HOE-DOWN

Just like typing or playing the piano, playing the violin requires tactile responses. Limiting visual input offers maximum benefit. Goal for KII students by December 1.

V. C. is learning to play HOE-DOWN at the Octave Harmonic - another KII goal for December 11!

TUNING

Picture
Tuning usually begins with the A String. Here is a link for reference: http://www.onlinetuningfork.com
A recently tuned piano or keyboard may also be used.

Swiss kids play JUNGLE DANCE (One of our favorites!)
We love singing it and some children are already playing it! Listen first. then play along!

NAMING NOTES
Note-naming is a relative skill. Working up the alphabet, rather than down, will be new to most children. Rhymes that name the lines are counterproductive for string playing. All children need to play the game below.
